Eligibility and Discount for Solar Battery Systems
To receive a discount on a new solar battery system, you must meet the following key requirements:
Key Requirements for Eligibility
• Battery & System:
• Battery Capacity: The battery must have a nominal capacity of between 5 kWh and 100 kWh.
• STC Application: Small-Scale Technology Certificates (STCs) can only be claimed for the first 50 kWh of the battery’s usable capacity.
• Solar PV System: The battery must be installed in conjunction with a new or an existing solar photovoltaic (PV) system.
• Product Approval: Both the battery and the inverter must be products listed on the Clean Energy Council’s (CEC) approved product list.
• Condition: The battery must be a new system, not used or refurbished.
Installer & Provider:
• Installer Accreditation: The system must be installed by a professional accredited by Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA).
• VPP Capability: For on-grid systems, the battery must have the technical capability to join a Virtual Power Plant (VPP). Actual participation in a VPP is not a requirement for eligibility.
How the Discount Works
• Small-Scale Technology Certificates (STCs): The discount is provided by creating STCs for the eligible portion of the solar battery system.
• Upfront Discount: You can receive an upfront discount on the total system cost by assigning the right to create these STCs to a registered agent, who will handle the paperwork on your behalf.
